Celebrating 150 Years
Deeply rooted in Chicago’s history of perseverance, the Apollo Chorus of Chicago is a community of auditioned volunteers -- from all ages & walks of life -- dedicated to providing quality performances of choral masterworks to the people of the greater Chicagoland area.
The Apollo Chorus has been through nearly 150 years of history; we rose from the ashes of the Chicago fire, survived the 1918 pandemic, two world wars and the Great Depression.
And now, because of the support of our community, members, and staff, we are coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic to celebrate 150 years of bringing music to the city of Chicago.
Through collaboration, connection & with respect to tradition -- the chorus is looking forward to providing its regular season concerts and special events in venues across different communities in Chicago.
Help us continue our 150 year tradition of presenting great choral works at the highest musical standards.
A Letter from Dr. Stephen Alltop
December 15, 2021
Dear Friends,
What a thrill it was for the Apollo Chorus of Chicago to perform Handel’s complete Messiah at the Harris Theater last weekend, with an amazing orchestra and stellar quartet of soloists. After a year and a half apart, being able to rehearse and perform together again has been a precious gift. I am proud of our singers’ hard work and commitment to musical mastery as we emerge from the challenges of the past two years.
With the support of our community, members, and staff, we are coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic to celebrate 150 years of bringing music to the city of Chicago.
Through collaboration, connection, and with respect to tradition -- the chorus is looking forward to delivering another incredible year of music making. From Bach’s St. John Passion to a newly commissioned work by Stacy Garrop, we continue our commitment to producing quality performances of great choral masterworks, old and new.
But as ticket prices do not begin to cover the costs of producing full length works of this quality, we need your support. Please join me by making a year-end gift to support the Apollo Chorus during this landmark season.
Your gift will allow the chorus to continue to inspire audiences, make music accessible to diverse communities, and support local musicians through collaborations and educational outreach. With your help, we will be able to sustain our tradition of performing great choral works at the highest musical standards for the next 150 years and beyond.
Best wishes to you and yours this holiday season.
With gratitude,
Stephen Alltop
