Community Resources
The Apollo Chorus of Chicago was founded in 1872 to restore civic pride and boost community morale in the wake of the devastating Great Chicago Fire. More than a century and a half later, Apollo continues to be an organization that brings together people from diverse communities all over Chicagoland through a shared love of music.
We bring the people of Chicago beautiful music that spans multiple generations from multiple sources. We are best known for our tradition of performing Handel’s Messiah every holiday season since 1879. Throughout the year, we perform modern and classical music, and have collaborated with many of Chicago’s finest musical organizations. We’ve sung at the Ravinia Festival, Lollapalooza, and with stars including Oprah Winfrey, Josh Groban, and Louis the Child.
Apollo sees music as a natural way to include and advocate for people of all colors, races, nationalities, disabilities, religions, gender identities, and sexual orientations. Through music, we hope to play our part in creating a world in which all can pursue happiness, experience fair and equitable treatment, and be accepted for exactly who and how we are.
We celebrate Chicago’s diversity by working to present our musical programs throughout the city’s multi-cultural neighborhoods. From Austin to Old Town, Rogers Park to Hegewisch, we appreciate the opportunity to share our love of music with all Chicagoland residents.
